In February, Mike and I were privileged to babysit four of our grandchildren for a few days. We took the children on an outing each day. We took them to the zoo, the museum, and one day to a beautiful area by the river. The older children were on a nature hike with a group of homeschooled children. While Mike went to get food, I was walking and entertaining the youngest one (3 years old).
We walked over by the river which was very pretty and slow-moving. We stood there for quite a while but after a bit, my grandson got bored with it.
At that moment I remembered a Fr. Thomas story. He was with a friend on a camping trip. One day they were in a vehicle eating their lunch and Fr. Thomas said out loud, “Lord, I’d like to get a good look up close at a buffalo.”
A few minutes later a buffalo came out of the brush and came up to their vehicle on Fr. Thomas’ side. It stood there and then turned around so Father could see the other side of it. Father’s friend in the driver’s seat couldn’t believe what he was witnessing. Father Thomas had asked and received.
So standing by the lake with my grandson I said, “Lord, we need some wildlife of some sort for him to see. Please send some.” Within a minute, a small flock of geese flew about 4 ft above the water right in front of us. I was like, “Wow!” My grandson loved it.
That was just the beginning. God had a whole show for us.
Soon some ducks swam up to us quacking. After that two riders on horseback walked right behind us. The horses were two beautiful shiny black horses. We watched them for a while until they passed. Then an exotic bird flew up near us to see. By now I was laughing and thanking God for all he was sending. My grandson was enjoying all of it.
Moments later a man with a nice-looking big dog came up. The man said my grandson could pet him if he would like. Well, he loves animals and petted him for a while. Then some people came by with two little dogs so we watched them pass by. Then we heard some loud honking out in the middle of the river. Some geese had landed and were just standing in the water honking. It felt like they were specifically talking to us since we were the only ones there.
It was quite the show the Lord put on for us! I smiled the rest of the day thinking about it. All I did was ask.
Ask and you shall receive.
God bless you.
