I had a cute thought the other day but first I will share this scripture.
The Lord bless you and keep you!
The Lord let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you!
The Lord look upon you kindly and give you peace! Numbers 6:24-26
Father Rick Thomas, SJ, used to say that the Lord didn’t have a face until he got one from the Virgin Mary in the womb. And so after that, the Lord could let his face shine upon us. So I was thinking about that scripture when I got my cute thought that made me smile. I will share it with you now. It is nothing profound, but here it is anyway.
My thought was, when Mary and Joseph were together with baby Jesus or little boy Jesus and someone would say, “Wow, Jesus looks so much like you, Mary. I can’t see any of Joseph in him.” I thought Mary and Joseph must have looked at each other and smiled, or given each other a wink.
Or when Jesus was a little older and understood the situation, and the Holy Family was together and someone would make a similar comment to Jesus like, “You look so much like your mother, Jesus,” I think the three of them had fun with it and maybe even responded jokingly among themselves with something like, “You think?” or “That’s what people say.”
Either way, they must have had a happy and playful home.
After all, his face was always shining upon them and was giving them peace.
God bless you,
Mary Ann / Mother Hen
