Jesus tells us that the road leading to eternal life is narrow and few find it and that the road to destruction is wide and many are on it. The world tells us the opposite. Even from the pulpit, we don’t often hear this truth. Who are we going to believe?
There is suffering on both roads – the wide road and the narrow one — but the joy that comes from following God is immeasurable. Misery awaits those who follow the path of doing whatever they want.
Sin separates us from God and robs us of our joy. God wants to cut out our sin, like fat from a piece of meat. The Word of God is a two-edged sword that will do that. Father Thomas taught us how to make a knife.
Take chapters 5, 6 and 7 from the Gospel of Matthew. Find the verses that make you uncomfortable. Write them down, and then read that out loud to yourself. That is your knife.
