“Dedicate yourselves to thanksgiving.”
Colossians 3:15
Next week is Thanksgiving. In this podcast we look more closely at what it means to be thankful.
How does the peace of God reign in our hearts? A big way is if we are grateful, giving thanks to God always, like it says in Col. 3:15. One translation of Col. 3:15 says, “Dedicate yourselves to thanksgiving.” When you dedicate yourself to something you make it a goal or a style of life. You make changes in your life. We have to train ourselves in the art of giving thanks.
There is a popular saying, “When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade.” We get given many lemons in our lifetime: financial crises, bodily aches and pains, difficult people to get along with, other varied trials in life.
What do you need to make lemonade? Lemons, water and sugar. Giving thanks is like the sugar. When bad things happen, if we can thank God for the many blessings in our lives, the bitterness gets sweetened.
Takeaways

- As soon as something bad happens, we complain and say it’s unfair.
- We need to train ourselves to be thankful and to make that one of our goals in life.
- We also need to thank the people in our lives.
